St. Augustine Indian Mission School, Winnebago, Nebraska

St. Augustine Indian Mission recently celebrated an exciting milestone with the purchase of a brand-new school bus, made possible through the generosity of its dedicated donors. The new vehicle will provide safe, reliable transportation for students traveling to and from the Mission from communities throughout the Omaha Reservation.

For many years, transportation has been one of the Mission’s greatest challenges. Students often faced long rides and unpredictable delays due to aging buses and mechanical issues. The new bus marks a significant improvement, ensuring that children from towns across the reservation – such as Macy and Walthill – can arrive at school on time and return home safely each day.

“Our goal is to remove barriers to education,” said Father Mark Beran, Director of St. Augustine Indian Mission. “This new bus is more than just a vehicle – it’s a symbol of opportunity, access and hope for our students and their families.”

The bus will also be used for field trips, sporting events, and cultural outings that enrich the students’ educational experience. By reducing transportation-related worries, the Mission can focus more fully on nurturing the spiritual, academic and emotional growth of every child. St. Augustine Indian Mission, which has served Native American families since 1909, remains committed to empowering students through faith, tradition and education. The acquisition of the new bus is part of its broader mission to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of its community.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible,” added Father Beran. “Because of your support, our children can move forward – literally and figuratively – on the road to a brighter future.”
