St. Michael Indian School celebrated Catholic Schools Week with a series of events honoring the people and traditions that strengthen the school community. The week highlighted the school’s commitment to faith, education, service, and community while recognizing the many individuals who contribute to the mission of Catholic education. The St. Michael Indian School choir participated in Sunday Mass at Mary, Mother of Mankind Parish in St. Michaels, AZ. Activities celebrated during the week included Senior Night at the high school basketball game, where families and friends gathered for an evening of school spirit. Students were recognized during a special Honors Breakfast celebrating those who earned A and B Honor Roll. We also celebrated teachers, staff, and volunteers, recognizing their dedication with treats and small gestures of appreciation for their daily work in supporting our students. Students participated in activities focused on vocations, highlighting faith and service. Students wrote letters of gratitude and gathered for a Holy Hour prayer service to pray for vocations. The week concluded with a celebration that brought together families and the broader community. Catholic Schools Week continues to be an important tradition at St. Michael Indian School. The week’s events honored the many partnerships that make Catholic education possible—students, families, teachers, parish members, and community supporters—while celebrating the shared commitment of forming our young people who will lead with faith, compassion, and purpose.

St. Michael Indian High School marked the feast day of Saint Katharine Drexel with a day of prayer, learning, and celebration honoring the foundress of the school and her remarkable lasting impact on Catholic education and racial justice. The celebration began with a school-wide Mass in the Saint Katharine Drexel Chapel on campus. Students gathered in prayer and gratitude, reflecting on the legacy of Saint Katharine Drexel, whose vision continues to guide our school’s mission nearly 125 years after its founding. Following Mass, students participated in the school’s annual Saint Katharine Drexel Miracle Fair. Students presented projects on Catholic saints and the miracles attributed to them. The Fair provided an opportunity for students to share what they had learned about faith, perseverance, and holiness while developing research and presentation skills. Community members volunteered as judges, offering encouragement and feedback as the students presented their research on the saints. The annual celebration reflects the ongoing mission of St. Michael Indian School—one rooted in faith, academic excellence, and leadership within the Navajo Nation. School leaders noted that the support and prayers of the community help sustain these traditions and the educational work that takes place on campus each day.

St. Michael Indian School is proud to recognize the outstanding achievements of its art students who participated in the Heard Museum Youth Art Show and Sale in Phoenix, AZ. Students joined hundreds of young Native artists to showcase their work in one of the region’s most anticipated youth art events. At the high school level, St. Michael Indian School offers a focused art education program that encourages students to explore both traditional Native artistic practices and contemporary creative techniques. Projects vary throughout the school year including work on set designs, parade float design. Twenty-eight students entered artwork in categories ranging from basketry and beadwork to mixed media, jewelry, painting, photography, and textiles. The students’ pieces were professionally judged and exhibited in the Heard Museum’s historic Monte Vista Room, giving students the inspiring experience of seeing their work displayed in a professional museum setting dedicated to Native artists and celebrating Indigenous artistry. Several students also experienced success in the show’s marketplace by successfully selling one or both of their artwork pieces.
