At St. Teresa of Avila we had several students receiving the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. We engaged the students to interview each other about their upcoming Sacraments. One of our students, Emma, interviewed eighth grader Abby, about her thoughts on her upcoming Confirmation. When asked by she thinks her Confirmation will be special to her, Abby noted that she believed it would be special because she will be able to get closer to God and our community. After her Confirmation, Abby plans to get closer to God by reading the Bible and praying more. She is excited about her confirmation is grateful to the religion teacher Ms. Lee for preparing her for the Sacrament.

Another student, Ana, interviewed third grader Francisco about his upcoming First Holy Communion. Francisco said that his sponsor for his Confirmation is his older brother. When asked why he chose his brother as his sponsor Francisco noted that his brother is kind to him. Francisco chose St. Patrick as his Confirmation saint because his birthday is on St. Patrick’s Day. Francisco also said he thinks his First Holy Communion will be special because he will actually have the Body of Christ inside of him. He learned about First Holy Communion from Ms. Lee, his religion teacher, as well as his mother, Ms. Saavedra. Francisco said he thinks his friends will probably be nervous for the ceremony because they have never done this before. After their First Communion, they will be able to participate in Communion at all the Masses they attend.

St. Teresa of Avila students in the Junior Division (6th–8th grade) proudly represented our school at the 66th Annual Grants Local Science and Engineering Fair held in February. Six of our students participated in the competition. One student won 3rd Place in Environmental Science, and two of our students won 1st Place in Earth and Space Science, and Microbiology. These three students will go on and compete at a Regional Science and Engineering Fair. We are very proud of our students who participated in this Science and Engineering competition. A special thank you to Mr. Alexander for working with the 4th to 8th grade students.
